The Governing Board has given initial approval to the specific amendment to the General Plan for the organisation of the “New Mahou-Calderón” district. The new arrangement presents a compact city model integrated into the historic surroundings, providing continuity for open spaces rising from Madrid Río towards Paseo Imperial and establishing new areas for public facilities. The new plans follow a wide-ranging process of public participation.

Now, after the corresponding public information period, the document is likely to be provisionally approved by Madrid City Council and will be sent to the Madrid Regional Government for final approval.

When it is implemented, a coordinated process, including the demolition of the stadium, the covering of Calle 30, the urban development of the area and the new buildings will be carried out.
